Witherwings' Place

A few haiku I have written over the years...

Stars

Ancient light diffused

Through bowers of timeless sky

Speaks from ages past

Flower

I follow your trail

High in the sky, my head lifts

To meet your sweet warmth

Rainbow

A myriad arch

Graces ever-changing skies

Born from rain-struck rain

Amber

Translucent prison

Enshrines a life in full flow

A showcase in gold

Sun

Celestial star

Solar deity beaming

With radiance still

Loch Ness

The abysmal deep

Draws ever-darkening still

Dwelling-place of dreams

Seasonal Quartet

Spring

A song on the breeze

Alights upon boughs unrobed

Casting verdant spells

Summer

Balmy skies aglow

Embrace the solstice arbour

With hazy lushness

Autumn

A harvest moon calls

Freeing waning leaves held fast

In red-golden drifts

Winter

White crystalline skies

Betray keen silver flurries

Sublime quiescence

Midnight

I wait for the strike

Signalling my time to go

Sneaking under dark

Down the stairs softly

I arrive bright-eyed, alone

Welcomed by the door

The handle I turn

And behold my sweet release

The promise of night

Garden path descends

To the place which knows me best

Where my dreams are born

I gingerly climb

Fingers finding oft-sought guides

My moon-willow haunt

As I gaze above

The sylphlike arms shelter me

Cradled in darkness

Framed by slender limbs

The night sky flirts and dances

Peppered lights ablaze

Incandescent hope

Fills me as I gaze and dream

Velvet midnight mine

Forest

Unseen eyes watch me

From curious woody dens

As I make my way

My foot-steps follow

Pathways forged by ancient tales

Echoes of the past

Far in the distance

Leafy whispering embarks

A dance in the trees

Drawn by its music

I gaze aloft and rejoice

Dappled by sunlight

As I turn to leave

The leaves in turn beseech me

A whispered farewell

Highland Dream

From afar you call

An echo of dream-spun days

A keepsake in time

In my mind I fly

An eagle's panorama

Above loch-laced glens

O'er heather-clad fells

Adorned by halos of cloud

Aching for the sun

Far below unseen

The ride of the deer declare

Their majesty red

Clear mountain-side burn

Sings a water-lullaby

And you find your still

Waking from slumber

Travelling on dream-bound wings

Hope anew - "one day"

The shore

By dawn's early flame

I alone seduced will be

By your breaking sighs

Standing at the edge

I melt into sandy arms

And my unrest ebbs

The gull's cry heralds

Your shore-lapping caresses

The salt-air of morn

Sifting time-worn sands

My fingers find sea-shell hues

Antiques of the deep

Your depths compel me

To drift on your quelling waves

Dreams assuaged once more

Hope

Fragile as a dream

Clinging beneath waking eyes

Dissolved by dawn's light

Fragile as a smile

Arranged on a china face

That feels no laughter

Fragile as whispers

Caught on the whimsical breeze

True meaning dispelled

Fragile as a tear

Cleaving to sorrowful eyes

Set free with a smile

Fragile as the thought

That beholden light is yours

Shadowed fear released

Butterfly

Curled in the darkness

Dreams play behind dormant eyes

Waiting for the light

Slowly night unfurls

Bringing potential unknown

The dawn of new life

Fragile wings entreat

The welcoming breath of day

For guidance aloft

A cautious ascent

On the shielding summer air

Brings daydreams to life

With wing-tips outstretched

Light as a kiss on the breeze

You soar and fly free

Moonlight

Chilled breath of midnight

Steals beneath the window's shroud

Brushing me awake

Stirred by the moon's call

Languid fingers seize the veil

Releasing the night

Silver shadows play

Their ambient lunar dance

Upon dream-struck eyes

Moonlit radiance

Cloaks the room in timeless still

Cheating troubled skies

Softly silent light

Whispers a luminous song

As moon-clouds sail by

Bluebells

Lavender-blue blooms

Grace the dappled woodland floor

With bowed fragrant heads

A spring breeze tousles

The carpet of tanzanite

Beneath the tree's gaze

Wild petals whisper

A bell-like symphony fair

Enchantment in blue

Autumn Haiku

A harvest moon calls

Freeing waning leaves held fast

In red-golden drifts

As summer retreats

Gracefully into the fall

Autumn's cloak ensnares

Rummage in the leaves

September treasure-hunting

Pine cones and conkers

A pale leaf's shadow

Etched on the autumn pathway

Earth's fading beauty

Jack Frost

Falling with the night

Stars shine in the cloudless sky

As Jack Frost descends

Settling on the grass

A silent blanket unfolds

Ensnared in silver

Frozen fingertips

Spread across the window-pane

Etched in white relief

Morning light awakes

The dawning ice-bound chorus

As chilled dew glitters

Warm breath clouds the air

As crisp foot-falls discover

The frost-tipped morning
